DEP Water Shutdowns

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection should provide businesses with sufficient time, such as 30-day notice (or the longest notice period possible), prior to scheduled water shutdowns. Restaurants sometimes receive less than 24-hour notice, and sometimes only a few hours before prescheduled, non-emergency water shutdowns commence early in the evening and continue throughout the night. Restaurants cannot operate without working water and therefore must close their business for the evening. This results in a significant loss of revenue for the business, loss of income for workers, and furious customers who have their anticipated reservations and events cancelled at the last minute.
