The New York State Liquor Authority (“SLA”) is planning to adopt new rules aimed at limiting access to one-day permits for large events. Under current rules, operators with a liquor license may obtain one-day permits to hold events at off-site venues.
Under the proposed new rules:
-All operators will be limited to 4 full liquor and 4 beer and wine permits per year for events of 1000 or more.
-All off-site venues will be limited to hosting 4 full liquor and 4 beer and wine events per year for events of 1000 or more.
-The local Community Board must be notified 30 days in advance of any event of 1000 or more.
These new rules impact you if you cater more than 4 large off-site events per year. We think that SLA does not realize the significant negative impacts this will have on some catering businesses. If you will be affected, you must attend the upcoming SLA hearing where they will be taking public comments on the rules. Here are the details:
