By donating, joining, or renewing your membership with the NYC Hospitality Alliance, you can help us support our up-and-coming, Black restaurateurs as they look toward a future in hospitality.
It is vitally important that the NYC hospitality industry supports and nurtures the future of our city's Black restaurant community.
In the month of June, the NYC Hospitality Alliance will donate 10% of new + renewal membership dues and donations to the Food Education Fund (FEF), a non-profit organization that supports culinary-focused public high school students including those at the Food & Finance High School (FFHS). According to the FEF, 98% of the students they work with identify as non-white and approximately 85% live below the poverty line.
The Food Education Fund prepares and empowers their students through a multitude of programs including the job training and internship program, a student-run cafe and restaurant, and multiple other college and career development opportunities. Your membership will help add to the incredible diversity in our industry, directly funding FEF student needs. If you've ever joined us at one of the many FEF events, like the lunch the students prepared for us last year, you know how wonderfully talented and enthusiast they are.
Recent FEF efforts include:
- Delivering over 380,000 meals to those in need since quarantine began
- Hosting three different forums so far to give a platform to student and alumni voices on what it is like to be a young Black person in America (Student Voices / #FEFChats)
- A student-run magazine focusing on pioneer chefs of color is on the way, put together by FFHS' junior class in collaboration with Cherry Bombe Magazine
If you are a restaurant, nightlife establishment, caterer or a product/service provider to the hospitality industry and are able to support our advocacy efforts while also supporting the future generation of restaurateurs in NYC, we urge you to please join or renew your membership with the NYC Hospitality Alliance. If you wish to support our efforts outside of membership, we would be grateful for your one-time gift. To learn more about the Food & Finance HS, visit foodfinancehs.org.
Without you, there is no NYC Hospitality Alliance. We are grateful for your support, and look forward to having you join in order for us to continue supporting hospitality businesses and help pave the way for our industry's future.
All the best,
Melba Wilson, Board President
