SLA FAQ on New Food Requirements

By NYC Hospitality Alliance

Gov Cuomo's surprise announcement of new food requirements at a press conference last week, followed by confusing statements to the press days later, have seriously frustrated NYC bar & restaurant owners struggling to survive and begging for clarity

As we said in a previous alert  discussing the new requirements, there are open questions that will need to be addressed.
Today, the State Liquor Authority added a FAQ section to its guidance document on the new food requirements.  The FAQ section is written in plain English and will hopefully answer several open questions.  We thank the SLA for this additional guidance. We encourage you to read it.
Contrary to what the Governor has publicly stated, if you are a bar that is licensed as a Tavern by the SLA, and have an outdoor dining area either as part of your existing liquor license premises or approved as part of a temporary outdoor dining program, you are permitted to legally operate.  Bars and restaurants should be mindful of the new food requirements, as well as all State and City social distancing guidelines.
