By NYC Hospitality Alliance

The Trump Administration is considering a 100% tariff on EUROPEAN WINES and other products entering the U.S. market. This would double the price of these items and undermine the NYC restaurant and nightlife industry.

The Trump Administration is considering a 100% tariff on EUROPEAN WINES and other products entering the U.S. market. This would double the price of these items and undermine the NYC restaurant and nightlife industry. If this tariff is implemented, it will put businesses and jobs at risk and limit consumer choice.

Quickly CUT & PASTE one of our pre-written letters below (edit for higher impact) to the USTR expressing concern about the impact this 100% tariff will have on your business if implemented. Deadline: Monday, January 13.
  1. As a restaurant operator, European wines and other products are very important to my business.  If these tariffs are implemented, it will put intense financial pressure on my business and I'll have to significantly increase prices on my customers. This will reduce the amount they spend, which will hurt my business and employees.   We should not be forced to pay for a trade dispute that has nothing to do with my business whatsoever.  It's tough enough to run my restaurant as is, and government should be doing what it can to help small business strive, not fail. Please do not increase tariffs on European wine as considered by USTR-2019-0003!  Thank you for your consideration.
  1. I'm a restaurant owner in NYC and I pay taxes and I employ people. The proposed 100% tariffs on European wines and other products will seriously weaken my business and drive away my loyal customers because I will have to increase my prices significantly on these products, and l likely won't be able to get many of the brands my customers want. In the hospitality industry, profit margins are very thin, and the tariffs will further erode my margins and force me to increase prices on everyday Americans and tourists. If my business suffers, so will my employees. Moreover, these tariffs will hurt countless jobs in the entire chain of the wine industry. I ask the federal government to seriously reconsider its proposal because it is bad for working Americans.
  1. The 100% tariff on European wines and other products under consideration is very troublesome. The tariffs will be detrimental to my business and my employees' jobs. In the restaurant industry, we already run on razor-thin margins while managing rising cost on many different fronts such as labor, real estate, compliance and more! The federal government must not impose tariffs that will hurt American's small businesses and Americans jobs. Government should be working to help small businesses like mine and not hurt them. I urge not to implement this tariff.
