Today, the NYC Hospitality Alliance was proud to host a virtual press conference with City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Council Members Gjonaj, Rivera and others in advance of the legislative body's stated meeting where they're poised to pass a package of urgently needed small business relief bills we've been advocating for, which include:
- Capping third party delivery platform fees
- Eliminating bogus telephone order fees
- Waiving sidewalk café franchise fees
- Protecting small business owners from personal liability clauses in commercial leases and instituting penalties for tenant harassment
Our executive director Andrew Rigie was the emcee of the press conference, and in addition to the elected officials who spoke, we were join by our president, chef/restaurateur Melba Wilson of Melba's Restaurant, our counsel Robert Bookman of Pesetsky and Bookman, and member Gabriel Stulman of the Happy Cooking restaurant group.
We greatly thank Speaker Johnson and the City Council for their support and urge Mayor de Blasio to sign these bills into law asap, which he has indicated supporting.
We encourage you to share this excited news with your networks on social media. Below, you will find a sample social media post and graphics.
