Mayor de Blasio announced that the city will begin enforcing the revised rule requiring chain restaurants with 15 locations or more nationwide, to post calorie counts on menus, post notices and provide nutritional information upon request.
The announcement comes after the federal government's recent announcement that they will postpone enforcement of this rule for another year. The federal rule was expected to take effect May 5, 2017.
The city's Department of Health and Department of Consumer Affairs will begin enforcing the rule on May 22 and then begin issuing fines for non-compliance on August 21, 2017.
