Rebuild, Renew, Reinvent: A Blueprint for New York City’s Economic Recovery
Today, the NYC Hospitality Alliance joined Mayor Eric Adams, government officials, and community, business and worker leaders at Hunt’s Points Market in the Bronx for a press conference to release “Rebuild, Renew, Reinvent: A Blueprint for New York City’s Economic Recovery,” which outlines the mayor’s vision for the city’s economic recovery and the future of the city’s economy.
The plan to accelerate the city’s recovery and build a more resilient economy rests on five key pillars:
- Restarting our city’s economic engines and reactivating the public realm;
- Supporting small businesses, entrepreneurship, and a more equitable economy;
- Driving inclusive sector growth and building a future-focused economy;
- Connecting New Yorkers to quality jobs and in-demand skills; and
- Planning and building for inclusive growth now and in the future.
The NYC Hospitality Alliance is proud that many proposals we’ve advocated for were included in the blueprint such as:
- Continue to support Open Restaurants, particularly in low income communities
- Develop an “Open Restaurants Kit-of-Parts”
- Suspend the 25 percent surcharge on liquor licenses, streamline the liquor license application process, and support local musicians
- Overhaul how City government interacts with small business
- Cut business opening times in half by streamlining agency inspections, reviews, and approvals and launching an interagency small business express service
- Tackle Public safety and quality of life concerns to strengthen corridors where New Yorkers live, work, and play
- Overhaul the NYC Business Portal
- Create a new Small Business Advisory Commission
- Reform business license requirements
- Expand free tax prep to serve small business owners and freelancers
- Expand the “It’s Time For New York City” marketing campaign

“New York City’s restaurant and nightlife industry has been devastated by Covid-19, but as we emerge from crisis, we have an opportunity to build back a stronger, more supportive, and more inclusive small business economy, while reestablishing our city as the hospitality capital of the world. We’re proud to stand with Mayor Adams and not only talk about small business and New York’s economic and social recovery, but to be about it, and lead the way with a comprehensive policy blueprint to build back better than ever.” Andrew Rigie, executive director, NYC Hospitality Alliance
